YouTube, along with Spain’s Real Academia Española and the Association of Academies of the Spanish Language, just presented the project of a complete and global reading of “Don Quijote” on the internet. To meet this goal, which will reflect the different accents and registers of the Spanish-speaking world, 2,148 participants will be needed, since the reading has been divided into that number of sections.
Any YouTube user over the age of 14 can participate, with no regard to his or her geographic origin of native language. The only requirement is that the reading must be done in Spanish. Participants must enter You Tube’s Quijote page and click on the button that says “participar”. Once you do this, you will be assigned a section will have 6 hours to prepare a video of your reading and upload it to YouTube. If within 6 hours you haven’t uploaded your recording, your section of the book will be transferred to another user. The supervision of the selected videos is done by a team from the Centro de Estudios Cervantinos, (Center of Cervantes Studies), headquartered in Alcalá de Henares (Madrid).
The project will be completed as soon as users complete the reading of the 2,149 sections of the book, and the videos will remain on YouTube indefinitely.
