Working in the Online Advertising business sometimes makes me wonder if there is really money in this industry, so I decided to look it up. I was shocked to find out some interesting data from the Interactive Advertising Bureau that was released in April 2012.
IAB Reports that in 2011 internet ad revenues hit a historic record by reaching $31 Billion, which represents a 22% increase over 2010’s full-year number which was $26 Billion. One important fact that the article also unveils is that fourth quarter revenues for 2011 were the highest at $9 billion- that’s a 15% increase over the prior quarter (Q3 in 2011).
Other important facts that the report states are that mobile had the fastest growth of all categories at about 149% increase, from $0.6 billion in 2010 to $1.6 billion in 2011. Video had a total of $1.8 billion compared to $1.4 billion in 2010, search accumulated $14.8 billion compared to $11.7 billion in 2010. Display also had a huge impact after making $11.1 billion in 2011, which represents an increase of 35% for all 2011 revenues, and up 15% over last year which was $9.6 billion.
So I ask myself the same question again, is there money in Internet Advertising? After reading those stats I think the answer is YES. So I believe I will stick around for a little longer.
