2012 ANA Multicultural Marketing & Diversity Conference

I recently attended the 2012 ANA Multicultural Marketing & Diversity Conference at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, Florida.

The Association of National Advertisers (ANA) is the advertising industry’s oldest trade association, founded in 1910 by 45 companies to safeguard and advance the interests of advertisers and consumers. Currently, the ANA leads the marketing community by providing its members insights, collaboration, and advocacy.

This year’s Marketing & Diversity Conference was another great event, bringing together industry leaders from advertisers, agencies and multicultural media companies alike.  Some of the highlights were:

Fred Diaz, President and CEO of Ram Truck Brand and Chrysler de México

In his opening keynote he discussed the state of multicultural marketing (Hispanic and more) and diversity at the company. He gave insights as to what was working well for Ram within the multicultural space as well as plans for moving forward.

WALMART’S Multicultural Journey: One Year Later


Walmart’s Tony Rogers made a bold and innovative move when it announced plans to decentralize its multicultural marketing group and instead turn everyone in the marketing department into a multicultural marketer.  Walmart discussed the challenges and successes they have encountered on the journey of making multicultural a priority across the entire company.
Healthcare & Multicultural Consumers
 Multicultural segments – particularly Hispanics, African-Americans, and LGBT – have unique health care challenges.  This “Deep Dive” session was a discussion format with concerns and insights shared by members of the industry.
