Latinos love watching videos and browsing the internet from their smartphones. While iPhones enjoy tremendous popularity in the U.S., Latinos living in the U.S. and LATAM go for Androids.

Now that the iPhone 6 will release a 4.7-inch device, will Latinos still prefer iPhones over Androids? A bigger screen will allow Latinos to watch videos more easily from their device.

Yet as Apple releases iPhone 6 this week, Android will be launching an app that allows you to browse via SMS. Android could not let Latinos go for iPhones so simply; they certainly had ‘an ace under their sleeve.’

In Latin America, people prefer Androids over iPhones. Percentages of Android usage are high: Mexicans at 80%, Argentineans at 86%, and Brazilians at 90%. In the U.S., 53% of adult Hispanics use Android, and 34% have an iPhone, according to Experian Marketing Services.

Latinos not only prefer Androids for its bigger size screen. Pricing is also an important decisive factor. Its affordability, along with the ‘ace under their sleeve’ will definitely continue to attract Latinos.

This new SMS way of browsing – which does not require internet connection and will be available at a much lower price than an iPhone – will benefit emerging economies such Asia, India, Africa, and of course, LATAM.

And for those in LATAM that love iPhones, Bryan Llenas from Fox News Latino says, “Apple fans in Latin America will have to continue purchasing their iPhones in the United States and then smuggle them into their countries.”
