On February 24, Facebook reached 2 million active advertisers, most of them small businesses. But how many of those come from Latin America?
Facebook has not released information about how many of those two million active advertisers are from Latin America. However, if we look at the top websites Latin Americans visit, we will see that Facebook is catching up with Google.
Alexa, an Amazon.com company, provides information about the top 500 sites in each country and web analytics about all existing websites. In Latin America, Google and Facebook rank first and second place. Facebook ranks first in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru and Uruguay.
*Bolivia, Paraguay, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua are not part of the list. To obtain information about these countries sign up or upgrade your Alexa account.
Google AdWords also provides entrepreneurs the opportunity to advertise their businesses. BUT Facebook has Internet.org, which provides free Internet services. Colombia is, so far, the only Latin American country that has partnered with Internet.org.
In less than two years, Internet.org has brought free Internet services to six countries around the world. Do not be surprised if more Latin American countries partner with Internet.org and, as a result, start advertising with Facebook rather than Google (if they are not doing it already).
