Hispanic Usage of Smartphones Increasing
Over the past year I have come across quite a bit of information that has indicated that Hispanic use of smartphones is on the rise. While internet usage among Hispanics is increasing at a rapid rate, it is still slightly behind the general market. It is, however, in the smartphone market where Hispanics are taking the lead amongst the rest of the population. According to Monica Babine from Washington State University, 45% of Hispanics own a smartphone as compared to only 34% for the general market.
When it comes to [purchasing a new tablet or smartphone], Hispanics are sparing no expense. This past holiday season Hispanics spent more than $5,000,000 on mobile devices, with one out of four Hispanics looking to spend between $251 to $1000 for a new mobile device.
According to Mark Lopez, head of US Hispanic Audience at Google, Hispanics have become much more tech savvy. With sites such Qiibo and Tu Tecnologia catering to this market and the fact that the average Hispanic is young, it is easy to see that Hispanics will continue to increase their presence in the world of tech.
